BRIEF ON HONOURABLE MOHAMMED SANUSI DAGGASH

The HONOURABLE MOHAMMED SANUSI DAGGASH was elected into the House of Representatives National Assembly of Nigeria in 1999 and represents a Federal Constituency in Borno State Nigeria. He serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and is a member of the Committees on Commerce, Environment, Habitat, co-operation and Integration in Africa and the Special Adhoc Committee on Oil Operations (J.V.C.).

HON. DAGGASH was born on December 22 1960 and holds three Masters Degrees in Architecture, Development Planning and Public Administration from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of London, University of Maiduguri. He worked both in the public and private sectors as a professional architect and consultant before joining politics in 1998.

HON. MOHAMMED SANUSI DAGGASH is a member of several intergovernmental bodies presently – including the Presidential Committee on Solid Minerals and Ministerial Budget System Review Committee, Member, National Consultative and Co-ordinating Committee 2000 on Beijing +5, and Istanbul +7.

HON. M. S. DAGGASH is a member of the Architects Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON); Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA); Nigerian Institute of International Affairs; Member, Board of Trustees of the Atlantic Research and Development Trust; Member, Institute of Management Consultants.

A BIOGRAPHY OF HONOURABLE MOHHAMMED SANUSI DAGGASH

An Architect by profession, Honourable Mohammed Sanusi Daggash
Was appointed a member of the National House of Representatives in the year 1999 representing Marte, Monguno, and Nganzi Federal Constituency and because of his outstanding capacity, he was later made the Chairman, House committee on Finance. He is also a member of House committees on commerce, Environment and Co-operation and Integration in Africa. He was born in Maiduguri, Borno State and is married to Hajiya Aisha Daggash. They have three sons and a daughter. 

Born on the 22nd December, 1960 in Kironewa Borno State, Hon. M. S. Daggash became a certified Architect in …….continuing his studies in Ahamadu Bello University, he bagged a distinction in M.Sc Architecture. In his search for more knowledge, he attended University of London where he received a Masters degree in Development Economics in … and in …… he went on to gain yet another Masters Degree in Public Administration at University of Maiduguri.

Hon. M. S. Daggash began his carrier as Director, Shuwari Consolidated Enterprises Nigeria Limited, Lagos in …..and latter  in …… served as Managing Director, Industrial and Commercial Enterprise, (W.A) Limited, Lagos and then again, Director, Mass – Consult Nigeria Limited, Kaduna in ……., Director, Matrix – Chad Limited, Maiduguri……. and Director, Automated Business Systems, Lagos in ……….. before taking up his present appointment as Member House of Representatives.

Honourable Sanusi Daggash has membership of many associations including Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and Institute of Management Consultants (MIMC). In 1987-1991 he served the Nation as a member of Nigeria Football Association (NFA) and latter in February 1999 was the National Assembly Member –Elect PDP. Hon. M. S. Daggash is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (MNIA). His areas of specialization include Project Management Industrial; Consultancy; Development Planning and Administrative Management. Presently, so far, he has served his Political party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as member, National Finance Committee (UNCP), organizer, Inaugural Chairman’s Dinner in 1997 and as a member PDP National Establishment Committee.

CITATION

Hon. Mohammed Sanusi Daggash was born on the 22nd of December 1960 in Kironewa, Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.

Hon. Mohammed Sanusi Daggash started his education in Kaduna in 1966.  The prestigious and then Elitist Capacity School Kaduna for his primary school education.  In 1973, he proceeded to King’s College, Lagos where he was an active sports man during the five-year period.  In King’s College Lagos, Hon Mohammed Sanusi Daggash held various class appointments and been the Secretary for the Hockey Team in his fourth year.  The responsibility of handling equipment for the school was due to his contribution to the game as he was the center forward of the College Hockey Team.  In this capacity, the honourable member received his half-colours – an esteemed award for sport men in King’s College.

Mohammed Sanusi Daggash was as versatile in sports as he was in his academics – for his School Certificate WASC examinations, he sat for 10 subjects – the maximum allowed by WAEC then and had distinctions and credits in all subjects both in Arts and Sciences – Hon Mohammed Sanusi Daggash had a Grade 1 which enabled him proceed to the School of Basic Studies of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1978.

The preliminary course allowed him to sit for the Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination and passed with all 3 papers conditional upon which a choice course be made.

Hon Mohammed Sanusi Daggash was admitted to study Architecture in 1979.  Through the course and general instructions he excelled in all subjects.  He graduated in 1982 with a First Class Degree in Architecture.

The result was the best First Class Degree as far back as 1969 in the Department of Architecture – ABU Zaria.

The first class degree accompanied all the 3 available prizes at the convocation for the Department of Architecture and Faculty of Environment

    1. Best All-Round Student of Architecture.
    2. Best Student in Working Drawings
    3. The Dean of Faculty’s Prize for the Best Student

He proceeded immediately for his Masters in Architecture for 2 years and again got MSc Degree.  This was a pass with distinction in 1984.  The thesis project was on the Abuja International Airport.

In 1984 – 1985, Hon. M. S. Daggash served under the NYSC Scheme – but being an in-service student, he was deployed back to his home State and the Ministry of Works and Housing.

In 1985, Hon Mohammed Sanusi Daggash became a Commonwealth Scholar and proceeded to attend the University College, London (UCL) of one of the Universities of London.

The Honourable member studies and attained an M.Sc in Development Economics in 1986.

On his return to Nigeria, he left Public Service and established a Consultancy Firm – Mass Consult – Nigeria.  The practice is established in Kaduna with liaison offices in Lagos and Maiduguri.

In 1989, Hon Mohammed Sanusi Daggash was appointed to the NFA Board during his four year stint, he was a Team Manager for U-21 Flying Eagle and converted the Canada 1989 Eaglets Team to the Silver Winning Flying Eagles Team in Saudi Arabia in 1991.  Hon Mohammed Sanusi Daggash was instrumental to introducing the late Sam Okwaraji to the NFA and the Green Eagles.

Hon Mohammed Sanusi Daggash expanded his business and professional endeavours by moving from consultancy to construction, specialized procurements and project management until he joined Politics during the Abacha era.

As a professional he is a registered Architect with ARCON, a member of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) and a member of Institute of Management Consultants (IMC).  The Honourable member has remained an avid student of politics and development and has attended several seminars, courses and conferences all over the world.  Honourable members also an alumni of the Harvard Institute for International Development (HIID) and has written a number of papers of poverty, development, housing, and social policy.

In 1995, the Honourable member registered for an MPA – Masters in Public Administration and was awarded the degree in 1998.

Hon Mohammed Sanusi Daggash served as a member of Finance Committee of the UNCP and later ran and won his present seat under the UNCP after the annulment of the Abacha election.

The Honourable Member was a founding member of the PDP and served on the National Establishment Committee – He ran for his present seat in 1998, which as we see is only the starting of a great career in politics.

In the present dispensation, he holds the office of Chairman, House Committee on Finance and served as a member of the Committees of Commerce, Environment, Cooperation and Integration in Africa.

The Honourable member is a widely traveled person; he is married to Aisha Daggash and has four children 3 boys and one girl.
